Style: Alternative Pop Metal Rock When Cyclefly's debut album, Generation Sap, came out in 1999, the band's forceful yet melodic style of alternative rock was often described as a combination of Smashing Pumpkins, David Bowie, Jane's Addiction and Iggy Pop. But much of the time, Cyclefly is heavier and more metallic than Bowie, and as hard-driving as songs like "Following Yesterday," "Plastic Coasted Man" and "Crawl Down" are, they aren't as abrasive or as noisy as the recordings of Jane's Addiction. And while all of those comparisons are valid and accurate, it's important to stress that Cyclefly is obviously striving for originality. One of the European band's strongest assets is Declan O'Shea, whose lead vocals are quirky, oddly appealing and recognizable. |

Style: Folk Indie Rock Irish native Noella Hutton shows off a throaty, raspy voice that is comparable to Marianne Faithfull and Bonnie Tyler. Her vocals are compelling enough but, combined with insightful lyrics and winning melodies, she has created a work that resonates. Produced by ex-Talking Head Jerry Harrison, Hutton benefits from the cutting guitar work of Joe Gore from P.J. Harvey's band. Lyrically, she manages to strike a perfect balance between bitterness and Resolution. |

Style: Alternative Dream Pop Primarily known as the band that got Shirley Manson first noticed (and eventually recruited) by Garbage, Angelfish was created by former members of the Scottish group Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie. Angelfishs videos received airplay on MTV's, 120 Minutes. It was on this program that renowned producers Butch Vig, Duke Erikson, and Steve Marker happened to catch an airing of Angelfish's video for "Suffocate Me." Still needing someone to front the group they were forming, and intrigued by Manson's unmistakable presence, a phone call was soon placed to Manson. During a break on Angelfish's North American tour, Manson took a brief detour to Vig's studio in Madison, WI, to record some tracks with the trio. The success of this tentative partnership soon blossomed into what would become Garbage. |

Style: Alternative Rock URL: http://www.friendsoflive.com Live, who have sold more than 20,000,000 albums worlwide, rose to chart success on the strength of its anthemic music and idealistic, overtly spiritual songwriting, two hallmarks which earned the group frequent comparisons to U2. Live first formed in the early '80s in their hometown of York, Pennsylvania, when future members Chad Taylor (guitar), Patrick Dahlheimer (bass) and Chad Gracey (drums) began playing together under the name "First Aid" while attending middle school. After losing an area talent contest, they decided to enlist singer Ed Kowalczyk, and as a foursome the group played under a series of names including Public Affection before settling on Live. |
